About Us
A brief history...

Lief, Nick, Dave, and Joe started out as just "The Band" playing for events at the Church of the Holy Spirit back in 2000. This pattern of behavior continued through to 2001.

For a time in 2001-2002, the band went through an identity crisis, changing names as frequently as they performed. They were known as "The Fantastic Four" (c. 9/01), as well as "Eric's Beat Theater Pepper Jar Band" (c. 02).

Sometime in mid-2002, the band, then consisting of four members, wanted to select a name that was meaningful, truthful, and had fewer syllables. The decision was made to take the title "Three Ugly Guys." At the time, the joke was to keep attendees guessing which of the band members was actually not ugly. That question remains open to this day, but the band name has been with us ever since.

As the band rolled on into 2003, it picked up its fifth member, Kenny (whose best pose was "sa-a-a-a-ved" for this page). It also picked up the habit of abbreviating "Three Ugly Guys" as "3UG," which is just as well, because with five members, explaining the full name is even more confusing than it used to be.

Alas, in 2004 drummer Dave and his family packed up and headed out to Wisconson, and we picked up Adam on drums, retaining a five member count against a three member band name.

The band's ugliness grew to a full factor of two in 2006 with the addition of utility man Craig.

In March through August of 2007, the band's first, full length 11 song CD "The Pursuit of Uglyness" was produced, demonstrating not only the obvious (we kan't spell rite), but that the staying power of the group is extraordinary.  If a band can survive recording a CD, it can survive the apocalypse.

Closing on the end of 2007, our drummer Adam, a born surfer at heart, graduated college and began grand schemes to return to his home state of California.  This put 3UG in the same league with the legendary Spinal Tap, unable to keep a drummer from exploding.  But the band must play on, and so we will with our newest member David, picking up the drummer torch (hopefully not too close to anything flammable).

What comes next?  Who knows, but hang on for the ride...
